Preparing for Corporate Tax

Corporate Tax Documents

  • Previous year’s T2 Corporation Income Tax Return (if available)

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) from the CRA for the previous year

  • Corporate minute book or shareholder register


Financial Statements

  • Year-end Income Statement (Profit & Loss Statement)

  • Year-end Balance Sheet

  • Trial Balance or General Ledger summary

  • Adjusting journal entries (if any)


Income Records

  • Summary of all business revenue and sales

  • T4 slips for employees (if applicable)

  • T4A slips issued to contractors

  • Investment income slips (T5, T3, etc.)


Expense Documentation

  • Categorized summary of all business expenses

  • Receipts and invoices for major purchases (especially over $500)

  • Vehicle expense logs (mileage or detailed method)

  • Travel, meal, and entertainment expense records


Asset & Equipment Information

  • List of assets purchased or sold during the year (date, cost, and description)

  • Details required for Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) calculations

  • Lease agreements for vehicles or equipment


Shareholder & Payroll Information

  • Record of salaries, bonuses, and dividends paid to shareholders

  • Shareholder loan balances and transactions

  • Details of any related-party transactions


GST/HST Documents

  • GST/HST filing summaries for the year Input Tax Credit

  • (ITC) supporting documents GST/HST registration number
     

Other Supporting Documents

  • Bank and credit card statements (if requested) Prior year corporate tax working papers (if switching accountants)

  • Any CRA correspondence or notices received during the year
